Now Recruiting Fantastic Businesses for Business Appreciation Week

Frederick County Business Development and Retention is hosting the 2014 Business Appreciation Week (BAW) during the week of October 27-31 and looking for businesses to visit.  We want to hear about all the wonderful things our county businesses are doing! A small groups of local ambassadors will be making short visits to businesses throughout the county and listening to ways we can improve the business climate in Frederick County and how we can assist businesses with any potential issues. Most importantly, these visits give our teams a chance to hear about the new products, services, research and things our companies are doing right here in Frederick County. Best Places to Work in Frederick County Honored

In front of a standing room only crowd, 10 companies were honored last night at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center as the 2014 Best Places to Work in Frederick County.  The Campaign, now in it's 12th year, is part of a countywide partnership between the Frederick County Business Development and Retention Department, City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, Frederick County Workforce Services and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.

All Frederick County businesses were invited to take the survey and winners were chosen based on their family friendly practices including: benefits, voluntary turnover rate, median salary and diversity practices. This year, two new awards were given for the People's Choice and Most Creative Workplace.

Helen Propheter, Frederick County Business Development and Retention Manager said, "This year's winners make it easy to showcase what a great place Frederick County is to do business in. This year's Best Places to Work help make Frederick County shine as the Best Place to Work in Maryland."

The winners are:

BOCC Recognizes Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County

The Frederick County Board of County Commissioners recognized the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County for their commitment and contribution to Frederick County. The Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County was charted by the Boys and Girls Club of America in 2010. The staff consists of 3 full time employees, 21 part time employees and 60 volunteers. They provide a safe haven for hundreds of children who have no safe place to go after school.

The Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County has a membership of 609 individuals. Some of the milestones and accomplishments are:

• 60% attended club 3 days a week or more
• 99% progressed on time to the next grade level
• 72% maintained satisfactory or better grades in all core subject area
• 51% improved their grades in at least one core subject area
• 62% of members missed less than a day of school per quarter

The ages range from 6-18 and the demographics are 55% male to 45% female The Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County plan to expand to the Thurmont area later this year.
