How
long have you been in business?
37 years. Dr.
Frank Nisenfeld started this practice as a sole practitioner in 1977 and today
it is the largest multispecialty orthopaedic group in the region
How
many employees do you have?
112 -
including 14 doctors, 6 physician assistants and 18 physical therapists seeing
patients at 4 locations in Frederick County and one office in Hagerstown.
Why do
you believe you will be successful in Frederick County?
We offer the widest range of services for
musculoskeletal injuries and conditions in the Frederick area, No other single practice in the region offers
doctors specializing in orthopaedic surgery, rheumatology, physical medicine, podiatry
and chiropractic. This model creates a
seamless coordination of care from one specialist to another resulting in
optimal patient outcomes with fewer hassles for patients who need to see more
than one kind of specialist.
Frederick area residents would have to travel to Washington or Baltimore if it
weren’t for MMI specialists like hand surgeon, Dr. Kristin Nesbitt and
pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Laura Copaken, each supported by a team of
specially trained and certified physical and occupational therapists. Or Dr. Jocelyn Idema, the only orthopaedic
spine surgeon in the region performing true minimally invasive spine
surgery. Being able to provide these
kinds of services locally has broad appeal to patients tired of battling
traffic and driving into the big city for specialized quality healthcare.
If your
company is involved in community outreach, please share with us your
involvement.
Our physicians feel strongly about giving back to the
community where they practice. As team physicians for Gov. Thomas Johnson,
Linganore, Tuscarora and Urbana High Schools, MMI’s physicians provide sideline
coverage during home football games and work in conjunction with each high
school’s team athletic trainer to ensure the timely evaluation and treatment
for injuries sustained in a game or during practice. In addition, MMI physicians perform sports
physicals for athletes participating in all sports at these four area high
schools. All of this is done at no
charge to the student or the school.
We sponsor numerous
area youth baseball and softball teams, including East Frederick Little League
and Fever Fast Pitch. We sponsor several
fundraising golf tournaments each year including Lily’s Hope, as well as
multiple local running events, the most recent of which is the Frederick Women’s
Distance Festival, where we not only make a financial contribution but offering
training, education and screenings to the participants.
For a more broad
outreach, our physicians offer free education seminars to the public on topics
such as joint replacement, back pain, and injury prevention.
What
are you most proud of?
Our strategic decision to build this medical
practice with, by, for and around our local community. MMI physicians focus on our community and our
neighbors first. Whether it’s in our
choices of where to live or educate our children or where we donate our time
and resources. This culture is embedded
in our organization. When we sought
contractors to build our facility we looked for local builders; as we sought
professional assistance from everything from attorneys, accountants, architects
and insurance brokers, we sought Frederick county people. We support our local hospital by volunteering
to serve in various capacities and donating time and other resources because it
makes for a stronger community. We
participate in the various social insurance programs that benefit Frederick
county residents as part of our social responsibility. We realize the extent to which our Frederick
County community thrives and grows, our medical practice will thrive as well. We are part of the community in every
way.
